Death, Taxes, and Tristan
Jon Grier

Cat.#50300
$6.00
|
For Violin, Cello and Piano. This is a tongue-in-cheek paraphrase of Richard Wagner's
famous and influential Prelude to the 1859 opera Tristan and Isolde, the musical consequences of which are as
unavoidable as death and taxes. The motivic materials, as well as a little of the harmony, are derived (stolen,
that is) from Wagner's Prelude; most of the harmony is jazz.

Trio for Piano, Violin, and Cello
John Kramer

Cat.#50249
$25.00
|
For Violin, Cello and Piano. This is a wonderful
original and fresh composition for piano trio. The first movement has a beautiful opening with long-
held clusters in the piano part and long phrases for the strings. It switches to a lively syncopated
part with punctuated chords in fourths and numerous seventh chords in arpeggios in the piano part.
The second movement's suggested style is witty and has excellent rhythms traded between players. The
third movement is labeled sad and beautiful. The long sustained lines of the strings over large moving
chords in the piano make a great effect. The time signatures change throughout. The fourth movement,
jerky, is a rhythmic tour de force right through to the end. We highly recommend this work, especially
for college recitals.
