Eastwind Variations is a set of variations based on a series of pitch
relationships as opposed to a traditional theme. Set against an accompaniment that exhibits a Far
Eastern influence, the trumpet part explores different moods that at various times are rhythmic,
acrobatic and hauntingly beautiful. Range is low b-flat to high c# (with an optional high e). The
piece was composed for Alan Siebert and was a first prize winner in the 2002 International Trumpet
Guild Composition Competition.
